We’re Not Canadian at the Beer Garden

A couple of weekends ago, we were lucky enough to see our friends Mike and Francis play at the Beer Garden. They’re most popular song is called “We’re Not Canadian.” You can listen to a portion of it in the video above. I apologize that I am not a better videographer, but you will get the idea.

For those of you who are unaware, the expat scene in Kaohsiung includes many different peoples. However, the two largest groups are Canadians and Americans. Living in Kaohsiung I have become aware of the stark and important differences between America and Canada. The two groups are incredibly proud of their countries and will be happy to tell you all the great things about their home. (Keep in mind none of these people are actually living in their supposedly wonderful homelands.) As you might guess, Francis and Mike are Americans who like to make fun of Canadians.

On a side note, if you get the chance, check out the Brickyard Beer Garden. It is located in Central Park and very near the MRT station of that name. On a summer evening, you can grab a beer and some food to eat on the picnic tables scattered in the park nearby. There is also often live music. In particular, Sunday night is open mic night during which many foreign bands come out to perform. It makes a relaxing evening after a long day of sightseeing, or for those of you who are more permanently based here, a good break before going back to work on Monday.
